About Us
The FAMILY
This is a little section about me!
I have had animals every since I can remember. I have always had a great love for them. They kept me company when I was lonely, they were my best friends and my little kids before I had any. I have had an assortment of breeds but when I got my first Boston Terrier, I found my breed for life. I love their loyalty, stubborness and eagerness to please. I got my first 2 Boston's in 2003 and in 2005 I bred 2 a week apart. In March 2006, my little Sadie decided to surprise me and start whelping a few days early. She pulled an all nighter, started at around 7pm and had number 6 at 3am. I had all I could take, thought she was done so I went to bed. My husband woke me up at 7am and told me that there was another. So as the day grew on, I would see her push and a little uncomfortable so I decided to take her to the vet. He did an x-ray and there was another puppy in there. She had to have the puppy taken by c-section. By this time I was miserably tired and when I got home I crashed, but was happy that my Sadie and her puppies were doing well. When I got up the next morning I couldn't find Betsy which was odd because she is my baby. I looked all over. I got the kids ready for school and then did a quick check around the house again and found her with a new puppy wrapped up in my sons blanket. I ran downstairs and told the kids to hurry up so they wouldn't miss the bus. I wasn't about to tell them that Betsy was having puppies or else I would have never gotten them out the door! I ran them to the bus stop and then back home. I brought her and the newby downstairs and sat all day helping her have puppies. She was so fat that she couldn't get around to break the bags. It was another long day, took about 10 hours but she had 8 healthy puppies. When those puppies were born, I felt like I was the new mom! I decided then that this is what I wanted to do. It does get stressful but I love seeing them being born, seeing the mom's look in her eyes when she has that new litter of babies, love seeing my kids excitement over the puppies and I love meeting the families that take one of our puppies in to their hearts and homes. I have recently aquired some French Bulldogs and hope to have a few litters from them. The French Bulldogs personality is wonderful. They have a certain expression to them that melts my heart. They are loyal and very loving. They are playful and fun to watch and also quiet and very easy going. I wish that I would have gotten French Bulldogs years ago, I had no idea that they are such a wonderful dog. They are expensive but worth every dollar. I have found something that I really enjoy. I have been a bookkeeper for my husbands family business for 17 years and still doing that but at home now which gives me plenty of time to spend with my toddler and my dogs. I am not a puppy mill and I will not sell my puppies to a broker.
It's not just about dogs for me!
Another interest of mine is finding a cure for my 12 year old daughter Hanna. She was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes on 4/21/04 at just 6 years old. It was devestating for all of us. We grieved for months because we had lost Hanna's freedom. Our healthy little girl now had to poke her little fingers 4 to 6 times a day before she ate, played and went to sleep. She had to have a shot if her blood sugar was too high and if she wanted anything to eat. She had to have glucose tablets if she was too low. We had to take classes on how to take care of her, had to teach her teachers how to take care of her at school. She couldn't go to birthday parties by herself or to sleepovers like before. Her grandparents were afraid to take care of her. She was on shots for a year and then got an insulin pump which made everything so much easier! She is very sensitive to insulin and the shots were bringing her blood sugar down to low or she wasn't getting enough and going too high. She was on a rollercoaster. We listened to everyones horror stories of those they knew that had diabetes and it just brought us down even further. We got involved with our local diabetes support group and the JDRF and found that we didn't have to feel like that any longer. She can eat what she wants as long as we know the carbohydrates. She learned to operate her insulin pump at a very young age and has found her independance once again. She is a happy girl and enjoys being involved in tumbling and cheer, she is an avid Hannah Montana fan and we are hoping to get her tickets sometime if we can ever find any at a reasonable price! She was excited to see the Jonas Brothers in concert in February. Nick, one of the brothers was diagnosed in 2007 so she feels a connection to the band. We have a JDRF walk in Peoria, IL and are actively involved with raising money for her cure and the others who suffer with type 1 diabetes. If you have a child with diabetes, feel free to email me. I love hearing from people that go through the same daily battles as we do. I was all wrapped up in my grief to get support but now I am so happy that I did! Go to www.jdrf.org for additional information and find ways that you can make a difference. I feel that we are all here for a purpose and sometimes things undesirable happen to us for a reason. I couldn't understand why my daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes but now I do. I have met so many wonderful people because of Hanna's diabetes and feel that I have helped others. Hanna has diabetes, diabetes doesn't have her. Some day there will be a cure found. I feel blessed that Hanna only has diabetes and not something worse. I have seen so many suffering children, she does suffer some and her future can be compromised because of diabetes, but her future has a great outlook as long as her diabetes is managed properly.
Our team is called Hope for Hanna because we have a dream that she will set free, that is OUR Hope for Hanna!
My most significant others:
In 1988 I met my true love, Kevin. We were married in 1989, just 2 weeks after I turned 18 and 1 week after I graduated from high school. He is quite the good fellow. He is hard working and loves his family! He has given me much support in my desire to breed Boston Terrier's, the Pug and now Frenchies. In 1991 he, his dad and brother started a logging business, then in 1992 they started up a sawmill. Logging has been in his family for years and after I met Kevin, I found out that it was in mine also. My grandfather had a sawmill back when they used horses instead of skidders to pull the logs out. In 2007 they sold the sawmill and now are focussed on just logging. His brother is taking a different avenue so that will leave Kevin and his dad to do the business. They are also going to get in to excavating, so they will be logging and digging!
In 1992 we had our first son, Joshua. It's hard to believe that he will soon be 18! He loves messing with computers and playing video games. He is 6'6" and wears a size 18 shoe! I blame his big stature on the milk he drinks. I had thought about buying a milk cow at one time but it's much easier to run to the store for milk than to milk a cow twice a day!
In 1996 we had our second son, Jeremiah. He is the wild child of the crew. He has a great imagination and could probably get hisself out of a bind in a dire situation. He loves to watch Animal Planet, National Geographic and the Discovery channel. He certainly has more knowledge about different animals and climates than I do. I am interested to see what career he will choose when he is an adult! He wants to join the Marines.
In 1998 we had our first daughter, Hanna. The story about her is on this page. I call her my doggie apprentice. She plays with the puppies after they are 2 weeks old. She names them all and gives them their baths. She just gets so excited when we have a new litter. I don't know if I would have as many as I do if I didn't have her. She certainly makes it more exciting!
In June 2007 we had our second daughter, Kelana. Yes, you read right, there is a 9 year gap between the last two children! I dreaded it until I seen her sweet little face! She has brought us much joy and we couldn't live without her! I call her the spice to the family recipe, just what we needed and now we are completed. She is our little climber, nothing can stop her when her mind is set to do something. I know now why people choose to put such big age gaps between children, so that everyone can pitch in and help.
I am a truely blessed woman and am very thankful for every person in my life and most of all my family.
